The Modern world is a concrete
landscape of fading moral hues with individualism seething in the overflowing
cauldron of desires. We grumble that it is a place where culture piercing is a
fashion; ready to be consumed and disposed off instant relationships flourish;
conversation is arrogantly punctuated with abuses and behavior is tattooed with
garish crudities and rash deeds. We seem to be living in a messy museum.
Grumbling would only pollute the
already suffocating scenario. The need is to reconnect with the values, to be
inner-directed, sensitive and STARK KIND! In other words, to rediscover the
purity of a child’s heart within us. Let’s take inspiration from the following
story featured in the CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL:
“His mother told us the story day
after.
Kenneth was in junior high school
and was excited and eager about participating in a day of Special Olympics
Events. While his parents watched expectantly from the stands, he ran, and won,
the first race. He was proud of his ribbon and the cheers from the crowd.
He ran in the second race. Just at
the finish line, when he again would have won, he stopped, then stepped off the
track. His parents gently questioned him. ‘Why did you do that Kenneth? If you
had continued running, you would have won another race.’
Kenneth innocently replied, “But,
Mom, I already have a ribbon. Billy didn’t have a ribbon yet.”
May kindness rule our world!
